The coronavirus pandemic caused massive amounts of people to move around the country.

Denver was one of the top five U.S. cities for inbound growth in 2020.

A relocation services provider in New York City called Updater analyzed a random sampling of 1.5 million household moves throughout the United States that took place between Janurary and November of 2020.

The data found that Colorado gained about 50,000 between July 1, 2019, and July 1, 2020, according to 9NEWS.

Updater's analysis also found that seventeen of the top 20 cities for inbound growth were warm weathered cities year-round. Only Denver, Spokane, and Reno were the exceptions.

As the COVID-19 pandemic left thousands and thousands of Americans unemployed, they departed some of the largest and most populated cities in the United States. They instead moved to smaller cities with lower rent.

“Many industries were negatively affected by the pandemic in 2020,” said the Vice President of marketing at Updater, Jenna Weinerman. “The moving industry was no different — moving during a shelter-in-place order was perceived to be extremely dangerous in early spring. However, as late spring and summer hit, many of America’s largest, most-populated cities experienced unprecedented resident loss, while smaller markets experienced unprecedented resident gains.”
