An Arizona hiker reported a startling find last Friday.

Human remains were found north of Rimrock in north-central Arizona.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's officials said that are trying to determine if the remains belong to a missing person from California.

The hiker reported finding the remains near Dry Beaver Creek in a small wash about two miles northwest of the McGuireville rest area.

According to the sheriff's deputies, the remains were "in an advanced state of decay" and were located at the bottom of a sandy wash in thick brush.

The remains were turned over to the county's medical examiner's office. Investigative technicians collected clothing and any other helpful evidence from the body.

According to medical examiner investigators, it will be necessary for dental records to be checked in order to identify the remains.

Sheriff's officials said that detectives are aware of a missing person case out of West Covina, California. The missing person's vehicle was found abandoned by Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers on September 23rd at the McGuireville rest stop.
