One of America's most common New Year's resolutions was to exercise more. And while willpower is an important aspect in sticking to your resolutions, where you call home might have an effect on how active your lifestyle is.

With people's minds still on their resolutions, WalletHub compared 100 of the biggest U.S. cities to determine which ones were the best and worst for an active lifestyle in 2021.

According to the study, Denver is the 8th best city for an active lifestyle.

The cities that made it into the top 10 along with Denver were:

  1. Honolulu, HI
  2. Portland, OR
  3. San Diego, CA
  4. San Francisco, CA
  5. Chicago, IL
  6. Seattle, WA
  7. Austin, TX
  8. Denver, CO
  9. Los Angeles, CA
  10. Washington, DC

Other Colorado cities made it onto the list but were ranked further down the list with Colorado Springs at no. 42 and Aurora at no. 69.

To determine which cities were the best for an active lifestyle, WalletHub compared each city across their "Budget & Participation" and "Sports & Outdoors."

Those two dimensions were evaluated based on 36 relevant metrics like average fees at fitness clubs and tennis court rentals, and recreational sports facilities per capita.

They also looked at each city's Google Search Interest for "At Home Workouts" and "At Home Sports Equipment."
