Rascal Flatts band members, Gary Levox, Jay DeMarcus, and Jon Don Rooney, are reflecting on their time together before going their separate ways in 2021.
In a recent interview with their record label, DeMarcus opened up about what he'll miss about the band most, saying "I'm gonna miss the times that we shared together that no one knows about, that no one sees – the looks at each other on the stage, the moments that we look at each other and we know that we’re at our best. The time in the trenches that no one knows about that the three of us have shared together that have bonded us together for life is what I will miss the most."
While the country trio's 20 years together hasn't been perfect, they've created a bond that'll last a lifetime. "You can’t make up for time spent together," he continued. "No one can do that, and we’ve seen the best of each other, we’ve seen the worst of each other. We’ve held each other through the saddest of times, through love and loss, and it’s a brotherhood. It has always been a brotherhood and the day that we don’t have that anymore and we can’t just reach out to each other so easily is gonna be very, very sad and heartbreaking for me."
While Levox, DeMarcus, and Rooney will no longer be working together as Rascal Flatts, the three guys plan to stay connected for years to come. DeMarcus added, "I know that when we’re old men together someday, sittin’ around on a porch and sharin’ old stories and singing ‘Prayin’ for Daylight’ when we’re 75, we’re gonna have a heck of a legacy to look back on."
Rascal Flatts announced they were calling it quits in January 2020, explaining that there is no sadness, but it was simply time. They expected to spend 2020 on the road for their "Farewell Life Is A Highway Tour," however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the group was forced to cancel their live shows and celebrate their 20-year career with fans in a different way.
In the summer of 2020, the band released their new EP, How They Remember You, which was followed by the release of Twenty Years Of Rascal Flatts The Greatest Hits in the fall.
