All of those old Christmas trees that used to be donned with red and green ornaments, glittering lights, and icy tinsel are now being put to good use.
The dead Christmas trees that were left in Mesa tree recycling centers are getting a second use at Saguaro Lake.
The trees were loaded up and taken to the lake where they were tied to concrete blocks and lowered into the water.
David Weedman from Arizona Game and Fish told Fox 10 Phoenix, "We’ll put them on the boat, and take them out and dump them."
The dried trees will bring new life to the lake by giving fish a luscious habitat.
Weedman said, "There’s parts of the lake that kind of look like...a flat sandy bunch of nothing. The fish that live in this lake - big mouth bass, blue gill catfish - they like to hang out around some structure. Substrate plankton can grow here, small fish can eat it. They’ll hang around the trees because they can hide in it, and big fish will come around and eat the little fish and create a whole ecosystem right around these trees where we put them."
The Department will eventually be putting out a map of where these trees were placed.
