Smoking is just as bad for your wallet as it is your health.
Wallethub did a study of the real per-person cost of smoking in each state, and the results were actually shocking.
The study ranked the states from the least-expensive smoking states to the most-expensive by calculating the potential monetary losses- including both the lifetime and annual cost of a cigarette pack per day, health care expenditures, income losses, and other costs- brought on by smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke.
So where did Utah fall on this list?
Utah came in at number 34, with a total cost per smoker being around $2,253,061.
According to the study, the out of pocket cost for Utah smokers is about $118,260 in a lifetime. In just a year, Utah smokers pay around $2,464.
