A new study determined the best states to retire in 2021.
By comparing all 50 states across 45 key indicators of "retirement-friendliness," WalletHub was able to rank every state based on their affordability, health-related factors, and quality of life in general.
According to the study, Colorado is the second-best state to retire in 2021. The state only comes in second to the go-to retirement state of Florida.
However, Colorado doesn't have the same status as Florida when it comes to retirement. While working on the study, WalletHub's researchers also found that Colorado had the lowest percentage of the population aged 65 and older while Florida had the highest percentage.
After Colorado, the next best states to retire in 2021 are:
- Delaware (No. 3)
- Virginia (No. 4)
- North Dakota (No. 5)
- Montana (No. 6)
- Idaho (No. 7)
- Utah (No. 8)
- Minnesota (No. 9)
- New Hampshire (No. 10)
The study also found that New Jersey, New York, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Rhode Island were the top 5 states to stay away from when it comes to retiring.
