For the first time in over a year, Carowinds will open for its regular season on May 22. Though typically opening back up each March, the 2021 reopening is scheduled for the summer.

The beloved amusement park will operate with limited capacity and with increased safety protocols in place to help ensure the health of visitors and workers alike. Tickets must be purchased in advance and facial coverings will be required for all guests ages 2 and older.

"We are excited to announce Carowinds' Opening Day — May 22 — and we look forward to welcoming you back to a fun and safe environment," a statement on the amusement park's website read. "We continue to monitor state guidelines and work with industry and government officials to ensure our reopening plan meets all required health and safety regulations."

Additionally, at least one member of each group must have the park's mobile app on their phone, which will help guests find restrooms, dining areas, rides, and more.

Health screenings and temperature checks will be required for all guests and workers, and hand sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the park. For more information about health and safety measures, visit the park's reopening plan here.

The park didn't operate during its regular season last year after a tumultuous 2020 caused the season to be canceled. Annual holiday events, however, were held during November and December.
