Free Money! Georgia Has Millions To Give Out And Some Of It Could Be Yours

Every state keeps a “lost and found” of unclaimed money and property.
One resource to check is missingmoney.com, which is free and endorsed by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.
Citizens can also go to a state website to claim the money or property owed to them.
For Georgia, that’s the Georgia Department of Revenue Unclaimed Property Division.
Here’s how it works:
“Unclaimed property refers to accounts held by financial institutions and other businesses who have lost contact with their owner of record. Unclaimed property includes, but is not limited to: wages, savings accounts, customer refunds, accounts payable, insurance payments, shares of stock, escrow funds, royalties and contents from safe deposit boxes. Most property is reported to the program after five years of inactivity.”
Think some of that money could be yours?
To find out if the state is holding onto any forgotten money for you, search your name on the Department of Revenue’s website. The site will also walk you through filing a claim if a result pops up.
Contact Unclaimed Property at 1-855-329-9863, or ucp.claims@dor.ga.gov for claims, or ucp.reporting@dor.ga.gov for voluntary compliance.
The Georgia Department of Revenue also notes on its website that it is “implementing a significant upgrade to our systems,” which could cause “a slight delay” in paying out an unclaimed property claim.
