Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested a suspect accused of attacking two people with a machete on Wednesday (February 3). Reginald Jakes, 27, was taken into custody Friday after a two-day search and charged with murder for reportedly stabbing two people on a CATS bus in Charlotte.

Around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, a man was riding a CATS bus when police said he stabbed two other riders, WCNC reports. The victims were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the suspect fled the scene. His disappearance sparked a search and caused multiple buildings to go on lockdown, such as nearby Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.

Initially, police said they were searching for a 22-year-old person of interest but they quickly eliminated him as a suspect after gathering more information on the attack. They then switched gears to look for Jakes, who was eventually found on East 7th Street and North Dotger Avenue.

CATS released a statement following the attack and subsequent search, saying there is no tolerance for violence on the transit system and that they would be working with CMPD to investigate the incident.

"I hope the victims of this senseless act have a quick and full recovery," the statement reads in part. "I want to applaud the quick actions of our bus operator and the bravery of the passengers who witnessed [Wednesday's] atrocious event. Safety is, and will always be CATS' number one priority."

Jakes is facing two counts of felony attempted murder and is being held by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
