A man admitted to driving with a 16-year-old on the hood of his car, leaving the teen in serious condition, reported AZ Family.
Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies were called to a crash involving a 16-year-old boy on Monday night in Black Canyon City. When deputies arrived, they saw that the boy had a head injury. The teen was airlifted to Phoenix Children's Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
YCSO as well as witnesses investigated the scene and noticed that the driver had fled from the scene of the accident after the boy slid off of the hood of the car.
According to police, 21-year-old Miguel Orozco arrived back to the scene at around 8:20 p.m. and contacted deputies.
Orozco told police that he was driving a Toyota Corolla with the teen on the hood while driving 25-30 miles per hour. He said that the boy slid off of the hood and was then struck by the front of the car that was still moving.
A press release from the sheriff's department said that Orozco made sure the boy was still breathing and then fled the scene in fear.
YCSO said that Orozco may have been impaired, and was arrested. He was booked into Camp Verde Detention Center on charges of child arrested, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of a serious injury collision, endangerment, and driving under the influence of drugs.
