A woman's rescue dog is on the mend after surviving a shark attack in South Florida, according to NBC Miami.
Monday evening (February 8), Ana Maña and her dog, Boobie, were playing frisbee on Darwin Beach in Virginia Beach until a shark grabbed the canine, reporters said.
“As she was swimming back to me this gigantic shark that now I know is a bull shark, about six feet, someone else told me that, grabbed her," Maña said, calling the experience "terrifying."
Boobie reportedly lost a lot of blood and her leg was severed. "I thought she was going to die in my arms," the pet owner added.
After the dog was rushed to the emergency vet, Dr. Natalia Andrade told NBC Miami "a lot of muscles and tendons were torn." There were even concerns that Boobie would have to lose her leg.
"Thankfully we didn't have to go there and I was able to close the wound," Andrade said.
Boobie got through a surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, according to reporters. Maña said they're going to a park instead of a beach next time.
"The fact that she’s wagging her tail and she’s kind of like herself, it's just incredible," she added.
