Luke Combs Honors The Late Dale Earnhardt During Daytona 500 Performance

This Valentine's Day, Luke Combs returned to the stage for a live performance ahead of the Daytona 500.

A limited number of fans were able to watch the show live at the World Center of Racing in Daytona, Florida, while millions of others tuned in from home. The country superstar played a total of five songs including his chart-topping hit, "Beer Never Broke My Heart" and the fan-favorite, "Cold As You."

Combs also took the opportunity to honor NASCAR legend, Dale Earnhardt on the 20th anniversary of his passing. The singer took to the stage wearing an Earnhardt branded letterman jacket which featured Earnhardt's car number along with his photo, signature, and a list of the years he won his seven Winston Cup Series championships. Earnhardt passed away during NASCAR’s Daytona 500 in February 2001.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Combs' five-song set marks the singer's first live in-person performance since February 14, 2020. Additionally, this was also NASCAR's first major performance since PitBull and Blake Shelton performed in the final race in early March 2020.

"I grew up watching the NASCAR race every Sunday with my granddad; that was our thing," Combs previously said in a statement. "I never could have imagined back then that I’d be playing the Daytona 500 one day, so this is super awesome and is something I’m really looking forward to."
