Cardi B Explains How New Single 'Up' Is About Poop

Cardi B's new single, "Up," has some, erm, surprising inspiration.

During the rapper's recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Bardi, 28, spoke about the new track, offering insight about the song's hook ("If it's up, then it's stuck") and how it has to do with constipation. "Um, so have you ever taken a poop, right? And it don't come out? It's just up and it's stuck. Yeah,” the rapper said, to which Fallon let some awkward silence fill the interview.

"Alright. I mean, I guess you can take from it whatever you want. There's other ways to look at it, I guess,” the late night host replied, before Cardi added that "it's a metaphorical quote."

Previously, Bardi said that the buzzed about lyric was picked up from her husband, Offset, and originates as a southern expression. "I feel like this is more like of an Atlanta thing, I don’t know, a Georgia thing," she admitted during a YouTube Live interview. "[Offset] kept saying 'up and stuck' and I’m like, ‘Oh sh*t.’ I keep saying 'up and stuck' out of nowhere … He always say it, but I feel like… this is some gangsta sh*t and that’s what I like."

"Up" follows her Megan Thee Stallion-featured "WAP," which dropped last year. Both are expected to appear on the follow-up to her debut album, Invasion of Privacy.
