Winter Storm Brings Icy Conditions To Louisville, Kentucky

In a press conference on Wednesday morning held by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, 44 counties and 24 cities across the state of Kentucky declared a state of emergency, reported WSAZ 3.

This come among the latest round of winter storms that are impacting the state.

According to Beshear, the Kentucky National Guard is responding to ten counties, working with officials to transport citizens to warming centers and shelters. They are also helping to transport medical staff and assisting with wellness checks.

Across the state, road crews are working hard to get road ways cleared up for safer travel.

Over 96,000 residents in Kentucky are left without power, which is down from the peak of 154,000 customers, according to Kentucky Emergency Management.

Jim Gray, Kentucky Transportation cabinet Secretary, says that they are working hard to replenish salt supplies in several areas.

Residents are being encouraged to stay home and to stay off the roads, as travel is very dangerous at the moment.

There are currently no interstates in the state closed, but some may close in the event of a collision or additional winter weather, which is expected to arrive Wednesday night and Thursday.
