The ASPCA has transported more than 170 dogs and cats to the Northeast during Texas' winter weather crisis last week, reported NBC DFW.
Many animal shelters across the state were severely impacted by the winter storms. Several of the shelters lost electricity and access to water.
The ASPCA moved dogs and cats from the Athens Animal Rescue Shelter in Athens, the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake in Kemp, and the Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth.
The more than 150 dogs and 25 cats rode in the ASPCA's Animal Relocation transport vehicles to two regional airports, according to the ASPCA, where they were loaded onto Wings of Rescue flights. The flights were completely funded by the ASPCA.
The animals were transported to Brandywine Valley SPCA in New Castle, Delaware and St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison, New Jersey. There, the animals will be cared for and adopted out to their forever homes.
The two flights took place yesterday. One departed from Denton Enterprise Airport around 7 a.m. The other departed From Fort Worth Meacham International Airport around 1 p.m.
