A Provo man has been arrested for accidentally stabbing his toddler daughter, reported KSL.
The man, Miguel Francisco Rodriguez-Vega, 34, believed that another person was in bed with his wife at his home near 200 South and 1000 East.
According to Provo Police Sgt. Nisha King, a call was made to Provo police around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday stating that a mother was rushing her 23-month-old daughter to the hospital after she had been stabbed in the foot.
Investigators learned that Rodriguez-Vega had been drinking that night. He entered his wife's room and began arguing with her. There were pillows and blankets stacked next to her, making Rodriguez-Vega believe that there was someone in the bed with his wife.
He then pulled out a knife and began stabbing the sheets.
According to King, his daughter was underneath, and Rodriguez-Vega ended up stabbing the young girl's foot.
Rodriguez-Vega was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of child abuse causing serious injury, six counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, criminal mischief, and intoxication.
The young girl was injured but is expected to be okay.
