Bruno Mars wants in on Music's Biggest Night.
After the Recording Academy announced the stacked list of performers for this Sunday's (March 14) ceremony, a roster which includes Taylor Swift and Post Malone, to name a few, Mars took to Twitter to ask if he could hit the stage, too. "Dear Grammys, If you can see it in your hearts to allow two out of work musicians to perform at your show, we would really appreciate it," he wrote in an open letter, referencing Silk Sonic, his new duo with Anderson .Paak. "We just released a song and could really use the promotion right now. We have a lot riding on this record (and the Pelicans game next week, but that's another story)."
Mars went on to declare that Silk Sonic would follow all COVID-19 protocol and tossed in a joked about the pair's willingness to send in an audition tape and take as many coronavirus tests as they need to. "I promise we won't be extra. We just really want a gig again. I hope you'll consider this request and give us the opportunity to shine," he concluded, adding, "Love, Silk Sonic."
Mars' plea might be a strategic move as the pop star is a Grammys darling. In 2018, his album, 24K Magic, took home Album of the Year, Record of the Year for its title track, as well as Song of the Year for "That's What I Like."
The 63rd annual Grammy Awards will air live on Sunday at 8 PM ET on CBS.
