16 Artists Who Won More Grammy Awards Than They Could Hold

Each and every year, the Grammys tend to see a few acts sweep the competition and come out victorious with several trophies. As we approach this Sunday’s (February 5th) ceremony, which will be hosted by Trevor Noah, iHeartRadio thought it’d be appropriate to take a walk down memory lane and highlight some of the ceremony’s previous champs.
From Adele‘s reign over the 2012 year to Billie Eilish’s historic wins at the 2020 show, these folks make being a Grammy darling look all too easy.
1. Beyoncé
In 2004, Bey took home six Grammy Awards. If you thought Beyoncé's streak was over then, think again. In 2010, she was nominated ten times and took home six trophies.
The singer made history as the most awarded female artist (and most awarded singer, male or female) in Grammy history in 2021.
2. Adele
In 2012 Adele won six awards, including Album Of The Year for 21 and Record and Song Of The Year for "Rolling In The Deep," surpassing the late Amy Winehouse for the most wins by a female British artist in one night.
3. Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson took home a whopping eight Grammy awards at the 1984 ceremony. All but one of his awards were given for his chart-topping record, "Thriller." The late performer also won Producer of the Year – Non-Classical and Best Recording for Children (The E.T. Storybook).
4. Quincy Jones
The well-known producer had the biggest night in 1991, winning six awards, including Album Of The Year for Back On The Block. Jones also became the first person to win the Producer of the Year award three times.
5. Santana
In 2000, the band topped the Grammys and matched Michael Jackson's previous record with eight awards, including the highly coveted Record of the Year and Album of the Year awards. This was the first time a group had won this many Grammys in one night.
6. Bruno Mars
Bruno was feeling the "24k Magic" in 2018, taking home six trophies, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
7. Paul Simon
Paul Simon (right, pictured with Art Garfunkel) swept the Grammys in 1971 with seven awards. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was one of the biggest hits of the '70s.
8. Eric Clapton
In 1993, Eric Clapton became the first British artist to win six Grammys in one night.
9. Alicia Keys
In 2002, Alicia won awards in five of the six categories that she was nominated for, including Best New Artist and Best R&B Album.
10. Taylor Swift
It turns out, Taylor Swift, who scored four awards during the 2010 ceremony, needed an extra hand with her GRAMMYs. The "Cardigan" singer was snapped accidentally dropping one of her trophies while posing for the cameras.
11. Billie Eilish
In 2020, Billie became the second artist in history to sweep all four major categories; Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the Year. Christopher Cross was the first, sweeping the big four in 1981. The 18-year-old singer also won the honors for Best Pop Vocal Album and she also replaced Taylor Swift as the youngest-ever solo winner for Album of The Year.
12. Sam Smith
Sam Smith won four Grammys in 2015 for their debut album In The Lonely Hour, including Record and Song of the Year, as well as Best New Artist.
13. Jon Batiste
Jon Batiste, swept the Grammys in 2022 with eight nominations and five wins, including the album of the year award for his album "We Are".
14. Jay-Z
Jay-Z won three Grammys in 2013 for the song "N---as in Paris" in the categories Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song Category. Beyoncé took home one Grammy that year and collectively the couple has 52 awards with 28 going to Beyoncé and 24 to Jay-Z.
15. Kanye West
Kanye West won6 6 Grammys in 2006 in the categories Best Rap Song, Best Rap Solo Performance, and Best Rap Album. He then performed "Gold Digger" and "Touch the Sky" at the show. Kanye has won over 24 Grammys through the years equaling himself as the most successful Hip-Hop artist with Jay-Z.
16. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga won 3 Grammys in 2019 for the song "Shallow" from the movie 'A Star is Born', including the category Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance with her co-star Bradley Cooper. Gaga has won over 13 awards in her career.
