Project Launches In Schwaz To Test Vaccine Against South African Coronavirus Variant

With Utah's mask mandate ending April 10th, the state is planning to ensure that every adult will soon have access to the coronavirus vaccine, reported KSL.

According to a statement from Governor Spencer Cox's office on Tuesday night, the state plans to give access to the vaccine to every adult by April 1st.

Cox's spokesperson Jennifer Napier Pearce said in a statement:

"Once it became clear that the Legislature planned to end the mask mandate immediately, and with a veto proof majority, our administration worked with them to push the date back to get as many people vaccinated as possible. We anticipate opening up vaccine eligibility to every adult in the state on April 1 and will likely have 1.5 million first doses in the state by April 10."

Pearce stressed the importance of still wearing a mask, and that the mask mandate will still continue in schools and large gatherings after the general mask mandate ends on April 10th.

Cox stated, "Every day we're vaccinating upwards of 25,000 people." He explained that if the most vulnerable Utahns are vaccinated, then restrictions don't matter as much.

He stated, "So we won't get through everyone before the potential mask mandate can go away, but we'll go through a lot of people."

So far, over 573,000 Utahns have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while over 319,000 have been fully vaccinated.
