“Identity theft is not a joke, Jim!”
Fans of The Office undoubtedly know the iconic line from Dwight Schrute (played by Rainn Wilson), directed at beloved jokester Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) after one of his most notable pranks.
But apparently, someone didn’t get Dwight's memo.
Jonathan Oosting is a politics reporter for Bridge Michigan, a nonpartisan, nonprofit news outlet aimed at informing the public on state issues.
Oosting pointed out that an unidentified individual photoshopped a picture of Krasinski on a Michigan driver’s license, allegedly as part of a con to swindle unemployment benefits.
Oosting tweeted a photo of the fake ID on Thursday (March 11). He said in the tweet:
“Someone photoshopped a picture of John Krasinski, aka Jim from The Office, on a Michigan driver’s license to try and fraudulently obtain jobless benefits, acting state UIA Director Liza Estlund Olson told lawmakers this morning.”

For Michiganders who need it (and intend to use their own ID, rather than a celebrity’s picture), they can find unemployment information from the Unemployment Insurance Agency.
Maybe there’s a reason The Office was on the fraud’s mind.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the hit NBC series has soared to the No. 1 most streamed show, according to the Detroit Metro Times.
