GPS Leads Driver Into Massachusetts Lake

Divers responded to an incident in Charlton after a GPS navigation led a driver into Buffumville Lake over the weekend.
The Charlton Fire Department shared photos of the incident on its Facebook account on Sunday (March 14) morning.
The department said the driver managed to exit the vehicle on his own and told first responders he was following GPS directions when he realized the car was plunging into the lake.
The crash occurred in the area of the Buffumville Lake boat launch off Oxford Road and the vehicle was submerged in about 8 to 10 feet of water, Charlton Fire Captain Dean Babineau confirmed to the Boston Globe.
Massachusetts Fire District 7 dive crews successfully recovered the vehicle, the Charlton Fire Department confirmed in its Facebook post.

"@charltonfirema was dispatched this morning to Buffumville Lake boat launch for reports of of a vehicle in the water," the department announced in the post. "The operator who self extricated himself was transported to a Worcester hospital for evaluation. Members from @MAFireDistrict 7 Dive Team responded and recovered the submerged vehicle."
The fire department received a report of the incident at around 7:00 a.m., Babineau confirmed to the Globe.
The driver was taken to a Worcester hospital and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, the Globe confirmed.
