College students have been flocking to South Padre Island, Galveston, and other Texas beaches for Spring Break this week.
Life looks like it has returned to normal in these coastal towns since the state no longer has a mask mandate and businesses can reopen 100%.
"The beach is coming back to life, the town coming back to life, we're having some fun out here, restrictions are so crazy you know everybody just kind of relaxed,” one South Padre Islander told NBC News.
Locals, however, are worried that visitors will bring with them more than just business and leave with more than just memories.
"I hope that this doesn't come back to create an influx of cases and a super spreader virus incidence during spring break,” Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino said.

The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention is strongly advising people not to travel and warn that Spring Break may lead to a spike in COVID-19 cases.
“With the coming warmer weather, I know it’s tempting to want to relax and to let our guard down, particularly after a hard winter that sadly saw the highest level of cases and deaths during the pandemic so far,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said on Monday.
Beachgoers in Galveston generally kept their distance and tried to find a ways to stay safe while enjoying the sun.
“I stay my distance. I judge no one. But I’m going to keep me safe. I can’t speak for you but I can speak for me and I’m going to stay safe," Lovely Williams told KHOU.
