If you were outside or even just looking out a window early Sunday morning (March 14), you may have been shocked to see a large, mysterious light flying through the darkened sky. Photos shared by ABC 11 show the strange parabola-shaped bright light making its way over North Carolina around 6 a.m.
Several people across the state reported seeing a similar phenomenon, WRAL reports. While some believed it could be space debris or a meteor, others were confidently calling the sighting proof of aliens.
A home security camera in Youngsville caught footage of the oddly-shaped light cutting a path through the night sky. A local family shared the video, seen below, with ABC 11.

Though the sight was beautiful for some and terrifying for others, many were left wondering what it could actually be. Well, according to ABC 11, SpaceX launched 60 Starlink satellites from Kennedy Space Center in Florida around 6 a.m. Sunday, providing a possible earthly explanation for the otherworldly sight. The National Weather Service agreed, saying the light was "most likely" due to the SpaceX launch and that it may have been amplified by the cloudy conditions of the sky.
