It's a new era for The Maine, and the band is kicking it off with their brand new song "Sticky."
"Sticky" is the first taste of The Maine's forthcoming new album XOXO: From Love and Anxiety In Real Time, and is about being unable to get someone out of your head. In the chorus, the band's John O'Callaghan sings, "And I swear/ These days/ You’ve been stuck in my brain/ Want to play you/ Over and over again/ Sticky just like the song in my head."
O'Callaghan tells iHeartRadio of the song, "'Sticky' was the first song that I wrote for the new album. It’s a tune about that person or feeling you can’t seem to shake, in a good way, and I hope the same happens with you and the song." He adds of one of the lyrics in the first verse that calls out Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," that the song really has been stuck in his head like the song suggests. He says, "A few years back I saw a Red Sox game in Boston and the whole stadium sang that song. It’s been stuck in my head ever since."
The Maine's new album, XOXO: From Love and Anxiety In Real Time, is set to be released this summer, and O'Callaghan calls it their "best record yet." He explained, "In my opinion, XOXO is a healthy balance of nostalgia and risk. We opened quite a few new doors for our band, sonically, and took chances that we’ve been afraid of taking in the past. I am heavily biased, but it’s our best record yet."
The band made their new album after they all moved into the same house together during the pandemic. Patrick Kirch recalls, "Recording the record during these times was honestly not that much different than how we usually work together as a band. We all moved into a house so that we wouldn’t have to leave and be around anyone else. It is really important for us to live and breathe the album 24/7 while working on it. We work all day on songs and then talk about them more together at night. It’s how we work best! It's easy to be distracted by other things, so when we are recording, we really try to focus and work on a record for a month to give it everything we have. We couldn’t be happier with how it came out!"
To celebrate the new era and new music, The Main is performing during a special livestream on Saturday March, 20th at 6pm PT/9pm ET via www.xoxo.live. Kirch tells us of what fans can expect to see during the free concert, "We will be playing our new single 'Sticky' live for the first time ever which is really exciting! The set will be filled with songs from our entire catalogue, and we put a twist on a few of them. We are really excited about the set list and think that fans from every era of our band will love it. We are performing 'In The Round' so that we can feed off the energy of each other without there being an in-person audience. Before the show, we will be airing a making of the album documentary to give everyone an inside look into how the record was made!"
