Baseball season is almost back, and Comerica Park will allow about 8,200 fans to Detroit Tigers games.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced updates to its Gatherings and Face Mask epidemic order in a press release on Friday (March 19). The update allows for 20% capacity in outdoor venues.
The Detroit Tigers will kick off home games on April 1, and single-game tickets will go on sale on March 25, according to WXYZ. Fans will have to sit in pods, spaced six feet apart from other fans. They’ll also have to wear masks, except while eating or drinking.
Before the updated order, attendance was capped at 1,000 people, according to WXYZ.
"We truly appreciate the ongoing partnership with the Governor's office and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. We are thrilled to safely welcome back the best fans in baseball to Comerica Park for Opening Day and beyond," said Chris Granger, Group President, Sports and Entertainment, Ilitch Holdings. "As the season progresses, we look forward to continued coordination with public health and medical experts, government officials and Major League Baseball to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all Detroit Tigers fans."
Michigan has reported more than 622,000 total confirmed cases as of Friday, latest data show.
