A Brazil variant of COVID-19 that has been deemed "more contagious" was recently found in Utah, reported 2 KUTV News.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the state only has one single and only case of the variant, known as "P. 1." The CDC posted it to its website on Monday.

The website also says that the state has had 150 cases of a COVID-19 variant that began in the United Kingdom.

2 KUTV News said that the CDC told the news outlet that it is "ahead of ur state dashboard report."

The Brazil variant of COVID-19, P. 1., was first found to be in the United States back at the end of January. The CDC says that there have only been 54 cases of the variant reported in the country so far.

Deseret News reported that federal health officials say P. 1. has mutations that could prevent antibodies from finding the virus. It also seems to spread faster and more easily than other COVID-19 variants.

Since the onset of the pandemic in March of 2020, the state of Utah has had 381,629 positive cases of COVID-19.
