Local police in a Massachusetts town plan to issue $100 fines for drivers making "unnecessary noise."

The Leominster Police Department shared a public service announcement on its Facebook account Tuesday (March 23) afternoon revealing its plan to issue violations for any "sound reproductions system operated within a motor vehicle" to "create unnecessary noise."

"No sound reproduction system operated within a motor vehicle shall be used in such a manner as to create unnecessary noise for any person other than the driver and passengers in said vehicle," the warning stated, which was listed as a "$100.00 fine" for "each violation," courtesy of Leominster Police Department.

The department claims the warnings will be issued starting immediately "for the peace and safety of all."

The department said the fine will be issued to repeat offenders who violate the new ordinance. The department is urging local residents to report any violations.

"If you are a repeat offender an ordinance violation will be issued," the department wrote in the Facebook post. "If you would like to report a violation please feel free to call the non-emergency line at (978)534-7560. The more information the better (i.e. license plate, location, accurate car description, or names). Thank you and happy spring to all."
