A tornado tore through farms and pastures across Weld County on Monday, June 7, reports FOX31.

While Colorado is not located in the "Tornado Alley," most tornadoes that do occur in the state usually occur over the Eastern Plains and are on the lower end of the Enhanced Fujita Scale of tornado intensity.

Additionally, FOX31 reports that Weld County has the number one rank for the weakest tornadoes (EF0, EF-1) compared to anywhere else in the United States.

Residents who witnessed the tornado said it rapidly grew wider as it traveled for miles.

One family near County Roads 19 and 26 told FOX31 they were worried they weren't going to make it.

"My husband came running in the house saying, ‘get down there’s a tornado over Tom and Connie’s house,’” said Carol.

The family had to hide in bathtubs. Luckily, no one was injured by Carol did say the tornado caused property damage. Six of her chicken were also killed and her horse named Leah was injured by Monday's tornado.

"She's got cuts on all of her legs," said Carol.

According to FOX31, the National Weather Service will be in Weld County on Tuesday, June 8, to survey the damage and to determine the strength of the tornado.
