A drone helped West Sacramento police safely find a suspect who allegedly put a gun to a person's head over the weekend, reports CBS13.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon (June 12). West Sacramento police told CBS13, officers first responded to the area of Drever Street to investigate an armed robbery that had just happened.
The victim told officers that the suspect had held what looked like a black handgun to their head. They also reported that the suspect's behavior appeared unstable. The victim said the suspect would possibly shoot at the police officers if he were confronted.
To keep officers safe, the department sent out an Unmanned Aircraft Systems to search the area for the suspect.
Eventually, the drone found the suspect under a bridge. They also received help from the Crisis Negotiation Team and the suspect eventually surrendered peacefully.
According to police, they located a BB gun in the area with live ammunition. However, officers have not found the second weapon that the victim reported seeing.
CBS13 reports the suspect has been booked into Yolo County Jail and is facing charges of robbery, criminal threats, and being a felon in possession of ammunition.
