On this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends, Zach Braff and Donald Faison have two guests they’re super excited about: First, Sarah Chalke, who plays Elliott on Scrubs, returns to talk about the time she farted on set, her real-life nosebleeds, and all the iconic moments that are in the season four finale. Then, Amanda Kloots comes on to talk about her new book Live Your Life. Amanda is best friends with Zach and her book chronicles the heartbreaking story of her husband Nick Cordero, who died of Covid early on in the pandemic. At the time, his story captured national attention – before him, only elderly people were going into the ICU, but healthy younger people were recovering. Nick was at his prime, a healthy, active 41-year-old, but once he went into the hospital, he never came out again. Amanda tells them how she wrote the book, and how she came to realize that while his story is tragic, it’s also inspiring, because of the incredible love and community that built up around her.

Donald forgot how many iconic things are in this season finale, including “Super Chocolate Bear” which people still come up and call him, as well as him laying down beside Zach on the basketball court “to make it look like we’re just chillin, even though I’ve knocked myself out trying to do a hook shot,” Zach explains. “That’s a meme that’s everywhere!” Donald exclaims. Zach is mad at Turk and lonely in his new apartment, so he tries to befriend Hooch. He calls him “Chocolate Bear No. 2” and even gives him a personalized helmet for when he’s riding on the scooter. But “Hooch is legit crazy. He almost killed someone with a sneaker!” Zach says. They all agree that bullion cubes in a shower head would be a diabolical prank, and praise Sam Lloyd’s incredible physical comedy in this and every other episode he’s in. “We don’t do him enough justice in saying how funny he is,” Donald says.

Then Amanda joins and they all remember the early days of the pandemic, when they were wiping down their groceries with antibacterial wipes. When Nick got sick, everyone had to assume Amanda had it too, but she got lucky. Unfortunately, Nick didn’t; Covid “was like a nuclear bomb on his body,” Zach says. And “one of the frustrating things Amanda had to deal with – as we know from the television show Scrubs, doctors don’t always agree on how to treat someone or what the prognosis is, and it was a roller coaster ride for her. But, man, is this a testament to a lot of amazing health care heroes.” Amanda also remembers how moving it was for people to sing Nick’s song “Live Your Life” at 3 p.m. everyday, for her to see so many thousands of people around the world praying for his recovery. “It was this perfect, weird moment of everybody needing a community, needing something to do,” she says. Hear her entire story and all their hilarious Scrubs talk on this episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
