A mountain lion was found under the deck of a home in the Denver metro area, reports CBS4.
The mountain lion is a 2-year-old female and weighs 60 pounds. She was found at East Oxford Avenue and South Broadway in Englewood.
The resident who discovered the mountain lion said their house cat was scared to go outside. They went to see if something was out there and spotted the animal under the deck and contacted authorities.
The animal was tranquilized by wildlife officers on Thursday night (July 8). They released it into an unpopulated area of Douglas County the next morning.
A manager with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Matt Martinez told CBS4 the officers had to take a more hands-on approach with the mountain lion because it was "so deep in the heart of the city."
After the mountain lion was tranquilized they placed tags on its ears, which is standard for CPW after relocating a mountain lion or a bear.
CPW says that they have received other reports of mountain lions. One was reportedly seen about 10 miles from the Englewood home.
“It is possible it could be from the same mountain lion, which may have navigated northwest up Willow Creek and Little Dry Creek and into Englewood, but there is no way of definitively knowing that is the case," CPW spokesman Jason Clay wrote in a press release.
