Residents in Larimer County were devasted by a flash flood that they had no idea was coming on Tuesday, July 20.

"I heard the noise of the trees breaking and the rocks rolling and all this stuff," one resident Dan Bond told CBS4.

In just moments, five homes and thousands of trees, and vehicles were washed away in the flash flood.

According to CBS4, the flood was caused by heavy rain in the area where the Cameron Peak Fire was extinguished many months ago.

“All of a sudden the power flinched and then I heard a pop of the transformer and the power went out. I got up and looked around and the power poles were just waving back and forth … and I looked down and there was mud flowing by my door taking everything in its path.”

The most heavily damaged area happened along Highway 14 and Black Hollow Road reports CBS4. While Highway 14 is open to traffic, there are still delays where cranes are working to remove debris.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office spokesperson David Moore announced that a deceased woman was found among the debris.

Crews were covered the woman's body on Wednesday, July 21, and two men are still missing.

“We will continue to assess the conditions of the river to evaluate the necessity of the closure order and will open it as soon as it is safe to do so,” the department announced in a statement.
