Anyone who has planned a wedding knows the work that goes into planning for that special day, including finding the perfect dress that they will treasure for years to come. One woman in Tennessee, however, recently discovered that the dress she had stored away nearly three decades ago after her wedding was, in fact, not her dress.
Emma Self, of Murfreesboro, recently got engaged and, like many other brides-to-be, hoped to wear her mother's wedding dress for the big day. Amy Francis Self got married in 1994 and had her dress professionally cleaned and preserved in a sealed box, storing it in a closet of her parents' home for the past 27 years, News Channel 5 reports.
"I loved my dress, I still love my dress because it was my wedding dress and it was, you know, one of the best days of my life," she said.
When they went to open the box, Amy knew something was wrong. She saw that the dress had some beading she didn't remember and the color was off. Hoping it was just a trick of her memory, her suspicions proved correct when she saw it had long sleeves. Her dress had short sleeves.
"And so we kind of looked at each other, and both of our mouths dropped open, and we were like, 'What in the world. This is not my dress,'" Amy said.

The dry cleaners used 27 years ago has changed ownership over the years so the mother and daughter took to Facebook to try and find its owner. The Selfs are hoping that someone recognizes the dress they were given almost 30 years ago in the hopes that each bride can reunited with their own dress. Check here to see more photos of dress.
"Every girl dreams of their wedding day and their wedding dress," said Amy. "And my daughter's dream is to use part of my dress into her wedding. So, I just asked you, if you have my dress, I probably have yours. No questions asked. I just really would like my dress back."
