National Thrift Shop Day is Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Thrifting has seen a rise in popularity in recent years. Second-hand shopping has gained popularity among the younger generations.
“I like standing out with my clothes, especially at school, because I tend to be a very quiet person, and [thrifting] was a way for me to express myself and push myself outside of my comfort zone," said one 17-year-old thrifter in a Refinery29 piece on the Generation Z's love for thrifting.
But beyond curating a unique fashion sense, thrifting is both a more sustainable way to shop and a way to help notable organizations in your community.
According to National Today, National Thrift Shop Day "is all about supporting local thrift shops and raising awareness for charitable organizations. Thrift shops aim to help those most vulnerable in communities and give back to the needy."
