The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention added four more countries to a list of places that travelers should avoid due to COVID-19. Turkey, Dominica, Jersey, and Montenegro are all on a level four travel advisory.
Countries that are listed as "Level 4: COVID-19 Very High" are reporting more than 500 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days.
Travelers are advised to avoid those countries, but the CDC said that if you must travel, you should be fully vaccinated before leaving.
Three destinations, Chile, Mozambique, and Uruguay, were moved down to the "Level 3: Covid-19 high" category, while Kosovo and North Macedonia moved up to the "high" category from Level 2. The agency said that unvaccinated people should avoid nonessential travel to Level 3 countries. Countries in Level 3 have between 100 and 500 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents.
"Fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to get and spread COVID-19. However, international travel poses additional risks, and even fully vaccinated travelers might be at increased risk for getting and possibly spreading some COVID-19 variants," the CDC said on its international travel advisory page. The COVID-19 situation, including the spread of new or concerning variants, differs from country to country. All travelers need to pay close attention to the conditions at their destination before traveling.
