The University of Houston's Shasta and Sasha are so cute that they've among the best college mascots in the U.S.
At least that's according to a recent survey by the design company Logo Quality Products. It asked 1,266 people across the U.S. to score 128 mascots from colleges and universities with NCAA Division 1 football teams. Based on the results, they created top 10 lists for the best and worst mascots; sexiest and unsexiest mascots; creepiest mascots; and the most offensive mascots.
The cougar duo found made the list for best mascots because they "earned high marks for being fun, friendly, and sexy, and did not lose points for being creepy or offensive." Here's how they ranked:
Best College Mascots in America
1: Willie the Wildcat / Northwestern University
2: Pouncer / University of Memphis
3: South Paw and Miss Pawla / University of South Alabama
4: The Bird / United States Air Force Academy
5: Bill the Goat / United States Navel Academy
6: Shasta and Sasha / University of Houston
7: The Oregon Duck / University of Oregon
8: Freddie and Frieda Falcon / Bowling Green State University
9: Goldy Gopher / University of Minnesota
10: Joe Bruin and Josephine / University of California, Los Angeles
They also made the list of "sexiest" mascots. What makes a costume animal sexy? "Maybe a sports mascot isn’t the first image that leaps to mind when you think of the word “sexy” — but you wouldn’t be alone if your pulse started racing a bit watching their sideline swagger.
Sexiness can stem from confidence and personality. But with some mascots, six-pack abs, chiseled chins, and a little spandex don’t hurt either," according to the survey.
Ummm ... ok? Here's how they ranked though:
Sexiest College Mascots in America
1: Willie the Wildcat / Northwestern University
2: Army Mule / United States Military Academy
3: Mr. Commodore / Vanderbilt University
4: Shasta and Sasha / University of Houston
5: The Bird / United States Air Force Academy
6: Jonathan the Husky / University of Connecticut
7: Sammy the Spartan / San Jose State University
8: Wilbur and Wilma Wildcat / University of Arizona
9: Scarlet Knight / Rutgers University-New Brunswick
10: Blue Devil / Duke University
Despite Texas having 17 schools with D1 football teams, Houston was the only school that regularly appeared in the survey. Texas State University's Boko the Bobcat did make the "creepiest" list of its big eyes.
