Utah Utes Unveil World War II-Inspired Uniforms In Cinematic Video

The University of Utah has unveiled some new uniforms for the football team, reported Deseret News. The new uniforms commemorate a ship that have connections to Utah and was used during World War II.

The Utes unveiled their "USS SALT LAKE CITY" uniforms on social media. They will be worn a the home game on November 20th against the Oregon Ducks.

The uniforms have a gray sleek look with black lettering and numbering. In black lettering, the words "USS SALT LAKE CITY" are written across the chest.

So what is the USS Salt Lake City?

The shop was used mostly in the Pacific during World War II. It was used in areas such as Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

The video states:

"The USS Salt Lake City was a heavy cruiser during World War II. The ship can be identified for having three, eight inch guns on the bow. We chose to feature the number 25 as it is the hull number of the ship. She fought in more combat engagements than an other ship in the WWII Pacific Fleet, earning the nickname 'One Ship Fleet.'"
