Dogs are more than just pets.

They're best friends, family members, and even coworkers. So we wanted to know about the top dogs in each state, including Kentucky.

Reader's Digest found what the most popular dog breed is in each state, and in Kentucky, it's the beagle.

This medium-sized hound make the perfect companion, hunting dog, or family pet. According to the American Kennel Club, beagles are "curious, clever, and energetic hounds who require plenty of playtime."

Also, who can say no to their soft, floppy ears?

While adorable, beagles are talkative and are not for people who want a quite pup.

Beagle owners are in good company because these dogs have consistently been among the top 10 most popular breeds in America since 2013. Famous beagle owners include former President Lyndon B. Johnson, Barry Manilow, Miley Cyrus, and talk show host Andy Cohen.

Snoopy will always be America's best known beagle, but one famous pup hails from Kentucky. Before he became a member of the royal family, Meghan Markle's beagle Guy was a rescue from Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Guy's story has been turned into two children's books - The Duchess and Guy: A Rescue-to-Royalty Puppy Love Story and His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle: The Rebarkable True Story of Meghan Markle's Rescue Dog.
