Rains Transform Texas Salt Flats Into Desert Oasis

Heavy rains in west Texas has caused a unique looking beach to form in one of the driest parts of the state.

The pools have formed in the salt flats that sit in the shadows of the Guadalupe Mountains that are 100 miles east of El Paso. The water collected in what used to be a lake 10,000 years ago, according to the National Park Service.

The water is only a few inches deep, but that hadn't stopped visitors from flocking to the shallow pools. They have become a popular cool off spot in recent days, KFOX 14 reported.

Local law enforcement is warning want-to-be beachgoers to admire the natural phenomenon from a distance though.

"Although we agree it is beautiful scenery, the large groups of people has caused some issues. Most of the salt flats is privately owned and we have already received notification from land owners that they do not want anyone on their property," the Hudspeth County Sheriff wrote on Facebook.

Since the flats are on private property, people risk being cited for trespassing if caught.
