Sam Hunt has released his new single, "23." His crooning vocals reflect on how it felt to be 23, reminiscing on an old love and how life moves on.

The nostalgic single touches on romance and beginning a career, the end of the relationship leaving no bitterness as both Hunt and his old flame pursue different paths. "I really hope you're happy now/ I'm really glad I knew you then," he says, promising that she'll always be "Memphis Queen."

Twanging guitars join Hunt as he promises that "you'll always be the same to me." He expresses that "I'll never be 23 with anyone but you," the single painting sweet pictures of a soothing romance while he imagines the life she lives now. "You probably got an office view/ Wearing all those skirts you always hated/ Yeah you're so sophisticated," he sings, wondering what her new life is like.

The track arrives as Hunt's first single since his sophomore album, Southside, was released in April 2020. He first teased the single on Tuesday (September 7), the singer sharing a 23-second clip that showed him working on the song in the studio. In June, Hunt shared a demo of a song called "Came The Closest," where he reflected on a relationship and family that nearly came to be.
