The gravesite of late rapper Pop Smoke was vandalized in New York over the weekend, police say.
According to TMZ, NYPD responded to the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (September 11) after an employee discovered the damage to the gravesite of Pop Smoke, whose name was Bashar Barakah Jackson.
The outlet reported that there aren’t any cameras in the area and that damage to the crypt is estimated to be $500, so far. The marble slab bearing his name in the mausoleum was completely smashed and appears to have been targeted.
Witnesses told TMZ it appears that the vandals attempted to drag Pop Smoke’s casket out of the crypt where he was laid to rest last year.
There are drag marks, a source told the outlet, and the vandals may have actually gotten into Pop Smoke’s tomb, after the concrete slab that would have been over his casket was discovered outside the crypt. It’s unclear at this time if anything was removed or if his casket is still intact.
