Kacey Musgraves is having one busy week. Days after the star dropped her new album, Star-Crossed, and made her MTV Video Music Awards debut, the country titan took to the 2021 Met Gala to show off her roots.
The star-studded affair, which took place on Monday (September 13), saw Musgraves rock a rather simple look from the Ralph Lauren Collection, wearing a black turtleneck, metallic silver skirt, alongside a black leather belt and matching knee-high boots. In an interview with Vogue, she revealed that the ensemble was inspired by "equestrian" fashion to coincide with the theme of the night: In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. "I'm a horse girl through and through from Texas and I like just like comfortably sh*t," she said on the red carpet.
On the music front, Musgraves' new 15-song collection hears her reunite with the folks behind her Album of the Year-winning Golden Hour: Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian. The fourth studio effort chronicles the last two-and-a-half years since the record dropped. In that time, Musgraves has gone through some major life changes, including the dissolution of her three-year marriage to Ruston Kelly.
"I think it's interesting that we're all taught that the success of a relationship has to somehow correlate with the length of it – in that it could be a friendship, a business relationship, a marriage or whatever. I just don't think that that's fully accurate,” Musgraves recently told NPR. “You can easily say it is a post-divorce album, which yes, it is factually on paper. But this album is full of a lot of love and gratitude for that person, for Rustin, for my life and my ability to explore all the emotions as a songwriter."
