Atlanta-area students are taking part in an “odd” trend that recently blew up on TikTok — and they're getting criminally charged for it.

It’s the “devious lick challenge,” which “encourages students to steal property from their school or damage property from their schools, typically bathrooms," Coweta County Schools spokesperson Dean Jackson told FOX 5 Atlanta. "It sounds odd to a number of people, it sounded odd to me too. We had never experienced it before."

One of the bathrooms at Evans Middle School became the latest target after two middle schoolers allegedly clogged a toilet with paper towels and swiped a soap dispenser from the wall. According to the Newnan Times-Herald, an Evans Middle School employee found the soap dispenser in one of the student’s backpacks. The Times-Herald also notes that another student handed over a screwdriver that was allegedly used to take the soap dispenser. Now, the students are facing charges in connection with the bizarre social media trend, including that by taking, interference with government property and criminal trespassing.

Jackson told local news organizations that the nationwide issue has happened at every high school and middle school in Coweta County and other nearby schools.

Although TikTok has banned “devious lick” videos from its platform, many students find loopholes to post new ones, according to Fox 5. Officials are urging students to avoid participating in the “challenge.”
