An exotic eagle that escaped from the National Aviary over the weekend remains on the loose in Pittsburgh.

Aviary officials believe the two-foot tall Steller's sea eagle named Kodiak escaped its habitat through weakened chain netting, according to a post on the facility's verified Facebook account Sunday (September 26) morning.

Kodiak was last spotted flying over Pittsburgh's North Side and was still believed to be in that area as of Monday (September 27), WPXI reports.

National Aviary provided an update to its initial Facebook post regarding its search on Monday.

"Our efforts to get Kody home safely continue today. We still believe he is nearby," the post stated. "If members of the public see him, please call the National Aviary at 412-323-7235, as we are actively responding to Kodiak sightings. If you see him it is imperative that you do not approach him, as he is likely to fly away from anyone unfamiliar to him. Instead please maintain your position and sight of him, but do not make noises, movements, or open doors or windows in an attempt to get a closer look. When our team arrives, please provide space for them to work to get Kody home. We have multiple teams on the ground, and they are prepared to respond quickly to credible Kody sightings."

Christa Parke told WPXI she spotted the exotic bird flying overhead while driving up Pennsylvania Avenue over the weekend.

“I was leaving to get coffee this morning and I was driving up Pennsylvania Avenue and saw a giant bird on the side of the road, so I pulled over and stopped," Parke said. "Cops showed up. The Aviary showed up. The lady from the Aviary tried to get it, and it flew right at me and it was a giant animal."

Kodiak has lived in the Aviary's habitat for about 17 years.

Aviary confirmed officials are working with animal control to safely capture and return the eagle to the facility.
