On a typical day in Inglewood, you can find parking for free. But for the upcoming Super Bowl Sunday, parking spots in the area are going for as much as $4,850.
According to the Los Angeles Times, SoFi Stadium, which will host the Los Angeles Rams vs the Cincinnati Bengals on February 13, can usually seat around 70,000 and expand to as many as 100,000 for large events.
However, because of stages and event spaces occupying several of the lots at SoFi, parking within the stadium grounds will be extremely hard to come by for fans planning on attending the game.
This means football fans are having to find alternative parking spots at Inglewood businesses, resident driveways, and garages.
According to the Times, over 100 parking spots are up for grabs on the ticket exchange site StubHub. Some spots in the Civic Center parking garage are going for $135 while the asking price for a spot in a small parking lot a mile away from the stadium is a whopping $4,850.
The average parking pass price is listed between $300 and $400 and they include access to parking in businesses like Hollywood Park Casino and Midas auto repair shop.
These StubHub listings are from sellers who have been permitted by the city to rent out spots on game days as well as resellers who prepaid for spots and are trying to make a quick profit by driving up the prices.
While these prices are surely upsetting for visiting fans, Inglewood residents with open parking spots are making the most of the situation.
“This place is a prison on Sunday," Hugo Vicent, who lives a mile from the stadium, told the Times. "I can’t leave my own neighborhood because the traffic is so bad. Why shouldn’t I be able to make some money for the inconvenience?”
