School is important, but receiving a college education isn't necessary for many professions that keep our society functioning. Stacker has compiled a list of the highest-paying jobs that don't require a college degree in the Sacramento area.

To find these jobs:

"Stacker consulted the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook to compile a list of all jobs that don't require higher education. All professions that listed a high-school diploma, some college education (without a degree conferred), postsecondary non-degree award, or no formal education requirements for entry-level positions were considered."

These are the top 10 highest-paying jobs in Sacramento that don't require a college degree:

  1. Commercial Pilots - Annual mean salary of $152,290
  2. First-line supervisors of police and detectives - Annual mean salary of $145,550
  3. Power distributors and dispatchers - Annual mean salary of $141,200
  4. First-line supervisors of correctional officers - Annual mean salary of $115,020
  5. Power plant operators - Annual mean salary of $114,420
  6. Electrical power-line installers and repairers - Annual mean salary of $107,540
  7. First-line supervisors of firefighting and prevention workers - Annual mean salary of $101,800
  8. Elevator and escalator installers and repairers - Annual mean salary of $100,280
  9. Detectives and criminal investigators - Annual mean salary of $99,770
  10. Insurance sales agents - Annual mean salary of $97,340
