Earlier this year, a report revealed that Market Street was one of the top 10 most filmed streets in America. But what about TV shows where the main characters call San Francisco home? "There are dozens of current and former television shows set in San Francisco. Perhaps it's because the city offers a unique backdrop with all of the windy roads and hills," writes Kathleen Esposito for Love To Know. This one is a no-brainer! Perhaps the most famous show to be set in San Francisco, in large part thanks to the classic opening credits that featured the Painted Ladies and the Tanner family driving across the Golden Gate Bridge, among other Bay Area views.
Charmed (1998 - 2006)
This beloved fantasy show followed the lives of three sisters (Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty, and Holly Marie Combs) who discovered they were witches. The trio lived in a house in San Francisco and every episode had establishing shots of notable SF landmarks despite being filmed in Los Angeles.
Silicon Valley (2014 - 2019)
This popular comedy series is inspired by the lives of engineers in Silicon Valley. This parody of startup culture starring Kumail Nanjiani, Josh Brener, and more took audiences all over the Bay Area throughout its 6 seasons but was also filmed mostly in L.A.
