Joevonni Gomez is a 3rd grader at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. He loves playing football with his friends and has big dreams for his future. But now he is left dealing with emotions that no one should ever have to work through.
KXAN reported that Joevonni was inside Robb Elementary when Tuesday's massacre occurred.
An announcement was made on the intercom that no one ever wants to hear. Joevonni said, "It said, 'there is an active shooter on campus, please go inside your classrooms.'"
That's when he and his classmates hid.
"We had to go like that," he said while crouching and putting his arms over his head. He explained, "In case if like... if the shooter, like, hits the window, and it comes flying in our classroom, it doesn't hit us."
Joevonni said that the kids had lots of questions and were scared. "We were whispering, cause, like, cause like, we didn't know what to do, like, we were just scared. Like what's happening and like why did this happen and like, why is he doing this?"
Everyone did their best to console each other. Joevonni said, "We just like stood... stand next to each other, like sit next to each other and like, we just hold on to each other, like hugging.
Now he's left to live in fear of it happening again. "I'm just scared that, like, if I go back to school it's going to happen again."
