Kenny Chesney is grieving along with the friends and family of a fan who died at his concert in Denver, Colorado. Denver authorities and officials at the city’s Empower Field at Mile High confirmed that the concertgoer was sitting on a railing of an escalator when she fell and died of her injuries. It happened around 11 p.m. Saturday (July 30).

Chesney, who is currently on his “Here and Now Tour” with Dan + Shay, Old Dominion and Carly Pearce, was heartbroken to hear of the woman’s death. He said in a statement to the Denver Post:

“I was devastated to learn of the loss of someone after our show. There had been so much joy, so much heart coming from the people of Denver last night — and to hear this is heartbreaking. Life is precious. Sharing music brings us together and that love we share makes us so much more. For the lady who came to share that love, there are no words. For her friends and family’s loss, I grieve with them and for them.”

The Denver Police Department confirmed in a tweet shortly before midnight on the night of the incident: “An adult female guest at Empower Field at Mile High was sitting on an escalator railing, fell to the concourse below, and died as a result of the injuries. This is being investigated as an accidental death.”

Denver police spokesman Nate Magee told the Denver Post that the woman’s death is being investigated as an accident. Magee didn’t know at the time whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, and didn’t know how far she fell from the escalator. He added: “To my understanding there was none of that, it was just an accidental fall, I don’t think anyone pushed her or anything like that.”

The woman has not been publicly identified as of publication time on Tuesday (August 2).
